1. Vision and Mission
1.1 2025 is the first Chinese New Year in intangible cultural heritage.
1.2 Project ‘Classical Poetry, Local History, and Cultural Identity: Poetry Writing Competitions in Hong Kong since the 1990s’ is funded by the Research Grants Council. The Principle Investigator is Prof. Nicholas L. Chan (Vice-Chair of The Department of Chinese Language and Literature, The Chinese University of Hong Kong). One of the Project is ‘Spring Couplets Creation’ that is Salesian Yip Hon Millennium Primary School collaborate with The Department of Chinese Language and Literature, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
1.3 American sinologist Stephen Owen advocates Literary creation, academics and thought can and should be combined. Through literary creation, Spring Couplets Creation to enhance students’ Chinese cultural thought and also academic understanding and experience.

3. Course design
3.1 During the Spring Festival, every household will post Spring Festival couplets outside their doors, expressing wishes and hopes for a better year ahead. Spring Festival couplets should be festive. Moreover, the number of words, grammar, part of speech, the upper and lower lines are the same, relative to each other.
3.2 First teach students confrontation,tone pattern. Refer to (Literature 101) A Moment of Tang Poetry Episode 4: Beauty of Tang Poetry- Rules and Forms (I)&(II) by Hong Kong Public Libraries, ‘聲律啟蒙’by EDB Educational MultiMedia(EMM), ‘近體詩格律概說’ presented by Prof. Nicholas L. Chan in Hong Kong Public Libraries, ‘Couplets and Culture’ in EDB presented by Professor Richard Ho Man-wui, ‘終身受用的學好中文方法 ── 平仄與聲調(第一集’presented by Professor Richard Ho Man-wui on youtube.
3.3 Teaching couplet. Refer to ‘Chinese Classic Sayings’ by EDB, ‘第二十八屆全港學界對聯創作比賽暨第四屆國際對聯創作比賽得獎名單及作品(2024)’.
3.4 Students try to create their first own Spring Couplets.
4. Effectiveness
4.1 Students are very devoted in learning from classical Chinese poems, appreciate the charm of words.
4.2 Primary students may not have the ability to appreciate the charm of poetry. However, after learning Cantonese Tone, tone pattern, understand the rhythm of the poets, the regular arrangement of syllables in poetry according to the number and type of beats in a line in this event, to improve the ability to appreciate the charm of poetry.
4.3 Learning tone pattern have to check Rhyme dictionary, like ‘詩韻’,’ 詞韻’ in the past, that is not easy for primary students. Because of the technological progress, students would check the tone pattern online. Therefore, there is a more general trend in learning tone pattern, poetry.
4.4 Increase the knowledge and appreciation of Spring Couplets in the event. Students will more appreciate Couplets in Spring Festival.
4.5 Rich content and benefit a lot, therefore students found very interesting.
4.6 Students may join Couplets competitions like’全港學界對聯創作比賽暨國際對聯創作比賽’,’全港詩詞創作比賽’, continue to improve language skills in secondary school.
4.7 Students think Chinese must save the Chinese New Year in intangible cultural heritage.

Through the development of modern technology, better preserve World Heritage on Chinese language. Primary students easy to master the essence of cultural heritage.
