Mr. Wallace Ma serves as the Programme Director for the European and other language programmes at HKU SPACE, including German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. He is also the Deputy Leader (European Languages) of the Centre for Language Education and Assessment at HKU SPACE. With his multilingual proficiency, international academic exposure and over 20 years of experience in the field of language education, he is dedicated to promoting plurilingualism and fostering multilingual talents by developing European language courses and training programmes for secondary schools, corporates and organisations in Hong Kong.
Starting from the 2025 HKDSE, candidates have to take the stipulated language examinations administered in Hong Kong by the official organisations for Category C Other Languages subjects, including French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and Urdu. The proficiency levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) ranging from A1 to B2 have been used for European language education by both official and private organisations since 2001, and even the levels of the Japanese and Korean tests (JLPT and TOPIK respectively) have been linked to the CEFR since 2024. This seminar will give you some insights into the implications behind these connections while introducing certain concepts and resources offered by the CEFR which can be very useful for language learners and teachers.
