Life Talks: Exploring Life and Death Education with AI
The lesson adopts an innovative approach by integrating values education with artificial intelligence. Through AI role-playing, students will deeply reflect on the finiteness of life and the inevitability of death, while cultivating gratitude, resilience, and an appreciation for the present moment.
The teaching objectives are divided into three levels:
1) Cognition: Help students understand the inevitability of death and recognize the importance of cherishing life.
2) Emotion: Through deep reflection, students will learn to practice gratitude and appreciation, adopting a positive attitude towards life’s challenges.
3) Action: Inspire students to cherish those around them starting today and to courageously pursue a meaningful life.
The lesson centers around three core roles: the Guardian Angel, representing a protector; the Short-lived Child, symbolizing the brevity of life; the Bereaved Loved One, representing enduring love and loss. Each role offers a unique perspective and life story. Students interact with an AI chatbot, simulating dialogues with a guardian, a short-lived child, or a bereaved loved one, to experience the profound meaning of life.
Prior to the lesson, the teacher prepares detailed background descriptions and tone guidelines for each AI role, allowing students to effortlessly engage with the scenario and participate in meaningful conversations.
The lesson is divided into three main stages:
1) Motivation: Using the “Cemetery Tour” and its spiritual stations to prompt students to contemplate the meaning of death, creating an atmosphere of reflection.
2) AI Role Dialogue: Students work in groups to interact with the AI roles, record AI responses, and engage in group discussions.
3) Sharing and Reflection: Students share insights gained from their AI interactions, reflect on their views on life, and write messages of gratitude for their loved ones on sticky notes, fostering an environment of love and thankfulness.
Finally, through the sticky note activity, students are guided to appreciate life and express gratitude. They are also encouraged to engage in meaningful conversations with their families at home, extending the lessons learned into their daily lives and becoming individuals who face life’s challenges with positivity and strength.
